Until the mid-twentieth century, strings for ukulele and other instruments were made from casings, a material that had been used for many years. The gut strings combined a quick response to the attack with a brilliant tone, unlike modern nylon strings. This characteristic sound was a reference for luthiers, composers and performers.
Aquila sought to create a new synthetic material with the same acoustic properties but without its typical problems: high cost, limited service life and great instability to climatic variations. The Nylgut® has exactly the necessary qualities: it allows, on the one hand, to rediscover the sounds that were familiar to the great masters of the ukulele of the 19th and 20th centuries and, on the other hand, it guarantees a tuning stability superior to that of the best gut strings or nylon.
