Cavaquinho model 109 with half tops and round soundhole. The cavaquinho is a Portuguese traditional instrument with different characteristics according to the region. Made in Portugal.
The APC 109 combines the tradition and the quality, made for musicians looking for an instrument of choice.
Not all cavaquinhos are the same and APC 109 stands out from the others. Like any other APC instrument, it is robust in construction and has a rich and expressive sound thanks to its selected materials.
The top - or rather, each of its half tops - is in black African fir and wood, and the bottom and sides are in solid saint wood. The scale is in black stick. These woods, in addition to providing rich sound and exceptional resonance, give this instrument a longer life due to its resistance.
The aesthetic factor was also not left to chance. The APC 109 benefits from the natural characteristics of wood, with its media in contrasting shades. The drawer is designed with a mother-of-pearl inlaid, which gives it a showy appearance, complemented by the decorative elements of the round mouth.
Because it is a predominantly harmonic instrument, the cavaquinho is used solo to accompany the voice, but it is also played in conjunction with traditional instruments such as the viola, fiddle, reco-reco, among others. The traditional tuning of the cavaquinho is D- B - G - G.
Widely used in traditional Portuguese music, as in the Mouth Whirlwinds, it has found space in other musical genres that benefit from its bright and very lively sound.
António Pinto Carvalho, the founder of APC, began to learn the art of building guitars and cavaquinhos, by the hand of his grandfather, only 10 years old.
In 1976 he created the APC, specializing in the construction of chromaphones. Nowadays it is the largest national company in the industry, with about 50 employees, who give authenticity and a personal touch to each instrument, manufactured with the most advanced construction technology, for greater precision and rigor. Modernity and tradition are the key of this company that proudly promotes the Portuguese cultural tradition.
The APC 109 is another excellent example of the quality of this prestigious brand of popular Portuguese instruments, made for quality and prestigious musicians.
