Description

Ritmüller started as one of the first piano manufacturers in Göttingen, Germany.

Andreas Georg Ritmüller and his son Gotlieb Wilhelm Ritmüller started their small workshop at the end of the 18th century. In the beginning, they manufactured lutes, guitars and harps until, later, in 1895, they added to the production the manufacture of upright and grand pianos.

W. Ritmüller & Sohn Göttingen (Germany)

The company has changed names a few times; after the death of Andreas Georg Ritmüller his son's name became the official seal of the company as G. W. Ritmüller and after the death of Gotlieb Wilhelm Ritmüller his sons renamed the company W. Ritmüller & Sons.

When the company gained more success, it built a factory in Hard Hof, in the Ritterplan region, which gained cultural status at the time thanks to the fact that it was frequented by artists and musicians who produced works and exchanged ideas in the great hall of the house.

W. Ritmüller & Sohn Hard Hof fabrica

In 1860, the eldest of Wilhelm's sons left the company to his younger brother, Johann Martin, and the company was renamed W. Ritmüller & Son. Unfortunately, after a successful century, the company had to declare insolvency in 1891 and was sold to Bernhard of Magdeburg, who again changed the name to W. Ritmüller & Sons. During 1884 and 1885, the pianos produced received twelve medals and diplomas in Germany and London.

Today, after being acquired by the Pearl River group, Ritmüller pianos aim to restore their past glory through the latest manufacturing technology and precise German workmanship. To achieve this goal, Lothar Thomma, a master piano designer with over 30 years of experience working with major brands in the industry, was brought into the company. Lothar has created a collection of Italian-style upright and grand pianos that offer the rich, warm sound typically found in European pianos.

The components chosen to manufacture contemporary Ritmüller pianos are of the highest quality and no plastic parts are used. The pianos are manufactured using digital CNC machines with assembly carried out by highly skilled craftsmen in a way that combines the technical superiority of the most advanced technology with the artistic excellence of the most experienced craftsmen. Some of the high-quality components that make up the Ritmüller are German Röslau strings, Premium German hammers, black ebony wood keys and a solid spruce soundboard.

Ritmüller's latest models have gotten rave reviews from the piano industry including Larry Fine, editor of pianobuyer.com who says:

“I like Ritmüller pianos, and I think the transformation of the Ritmüller series over the last few years has been one of the most authentic and musically successful changes in the piano industry.”
