The Irish flute, tin whistle or pennywhistle is a small metal flute that is used very often in celtic music.
It is usually made of copper, tin or brass, but there are also wooden flutes.
Regarding the technique used for playing, this is very similar to that used in the recorder, although it has only 6 holes. It achieves two octaves and has an associated tuning, being the tuning in D very common. The pitch is more acute and has more presence than the one of the recorders. Although it is easy learning instrument, the execution of techniques required by the songs in which it is applied implies that the player develops enough agility.
