The clarinet is a wind instrument with a cylindrical tube of wood or other material. It has a cone-shaped mouthpiece and a single vane. It has a set of keys, which are metal rods attached to covers that cover the holes of the instrument. It has four records: bass (Chalumeau), medium, high and super-high.
It originates in an instrument called chalumeau, which was widely disseminated in France in the Middle Ages. The chalumeau was developed by the German Johann Christoph Denner, who in 1690 added a key to the thumb of his left hand, which brought him more sound possibilities, thus giving rise to the contemporary clarinet. It was introduced in the orchestras from 1750, being one of the last wind instruments incorporated to the modern orchestral formation.
